| The Baeyens 3B Ranch is a family run cattle operation located in Arkansas. The ranch is nestled in the Ouachita Mountains situated directly on the banks of the beautiful Ouachita River. I'm Dennis, and running the ranch is now my full-time occupation. I retired from an academic career two years ago after working for 32 years as a molecular biologist at the University of Arkansas. My wife, Marilynn, is the veterinarian for the Little Rock Zoo as well as being in private practice in Sherwood Arkansas. The third member of our team is our daughter Katie. Katie, following in her mother's footsteps, graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine from LSU in 2008. Katie is practicing at North Hills Animal Clinic with her mother.
As stated above, our goal is to incorporate superior genetics into our red Brahman and Hereford cattle through a selective breeding program. We are concentrating on producing animals that are able to thrive in their environment. We believe that the F1 Braford cattle, resulting from a Hereford-Brahman cross, will greatly enhance our chances of achieving this goal. The F1 cattle nicely bridge the gap between cold weather animals (Herefords) and the more subtropical Brahman cattle. In short, they thrive no matter what the season.
A second goal is to become a totally grass fed operation. We are using management intensive grazing techniques (MIG) to improve pasture and reduce our dependence on supplemental feed. By cutting our pasture into ten acre plots and using a rotational grazing scheme we have vastly reduced our dependence on winter hay feeding.
We also raise working Border Collies to help us with the cattle. These dogs have proven themselves to be indispensable partners for cattle management. Our dogs are bred solely for their working ability. From time to time we have puppies for sale which will be featured on this web site. Since the dogs are such a big part of our operation we plan to add a dog page to our website at some point in the future.
